Richard Holland, Director at Burgess Design and Print, said,
“We provide end-to-end design, print, sign & display solutions and aim to accomplish better control of these projects by keeping more complex jobs in-house. We decided to invest in a Xerox Versant 180 digital press and Matrix MX-370P laminator due to the price, quality, simplicity and also due to the training provided by DNS to help our team get to grips with the new equipment as quickly as possible.”

The new Xerox Versant 180 digital press has a by-pass tray extender which provides added functionality for printing extra-long sheets up to 660mm to enable A4 6pp – which previously would need to be sent out to a trade house.
An external Fiery RIP server also helps with variable data printing and imposition. Combining all of this with a Matrix MX-370P laminator by Vivid Laminating Technologies, it’s never been more simple to produce laminated, foiled and spot UV print products in-house whilst also utilising variable data.
Hugh Sutherland, Production Print Specialist at Document Network Services – who supplied the new digital printing equipment – said:
“In this investment, Burgess Design and Print have taken on award-winning technology. The Xerox Versant 180 digital press offers so many improvements in productivity, efficiency and throughput – such as full imposition and hot folders, fully setup for each workflow of popular jobs; printing up to 660mm wide sheets with the by-pass extender to provide tight registration on the hardest of jobs; and alignment profiling with much less user input.”
Their new Matrix MX-370P Pneumatic Laminator is built using the highest quality components, including Omron switches and Schneider electrics, and can run up to twice the speed of their standard laminating systems – delivering production runs of 2,500 sheets per hour. Pneumatic pressure rollers allow you to laminate certain substrates up to 50% quicker, saving both time and cost.
“Before investing in these solutions, we used external suppliers for short run laminating and leaflet folding. Since investing in the Xerox Versant 180 press and Matrix MX-370P laminator – which have allowed us to bring new, digital print finishing capabilities in-house – we have been able to measure reduced costs and an increase in revenue and growth.”

“These are hugely popular machines that help print businesses and corporate marketing departments to do much more, in-house, without having to outsource their work. This allows a quicker, lower cost and more flexible approach to digital printing which in turn helps to increase revenue and profits. Combining the Matrix Laminator has added additional revenue streams into the business, whilst being able to produce standard laminated jobs in a tighter timeframe. The Xerox Versant 180 and Matrix are a brilliant combination together, offering a unique offering to customers and a more controlled approach from the print operator.”
