Microsoft recently announced that they will be ending extended support for Windows 7 on Tuesday 14th January 2020 – but, you can keep the good times rolling with an upgrade to Windows 10 when you subscribe to a Microsoft 365 Business monthly plan.

Are any other systems affected?

If you’re not using Windows 7, you might be thinking that you’re safe – but Microsoft announced that they’ll also be ending the following:

  • Extended Support for Windows Server 2008 & Windows Server 2008 R2
  • Support for Exchange 2010
  • Extended Support for SQL Server 2008 and 2008 R2 will end even sooner, on July 9, 2019, including all Express variants that may have been installed by third party software.

What happens if I do nothing?

If you’re already using Windows 7 or the other servers listed above, then you can continue using your existing Microsoft products as you already are, even once support has ended.

However, Microsoft will not support any faults or security breaches and your PC will become more vulnerable to all risks as you will stop receiving these updates.

This not only leaves your business open to potential security threats, such as viruses and cybercrime, but also brings with it compliance implications around GDPR.
